Day 3-June 1
Loaded up and on the road again. Slight change in plans. We have decided that it is time to put the canoe in some water. Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake are just too big so we are headed to the National Forest Riverway in Missouri . The spring storms have caused some flooding but from what we have found out the small rivers are canoeable again. Arrived at Alley Spring campground about 3:00 p.m. After getting set up we walked down to the river to check it out for a possible float trip. There were a couple of guys there waiting to pick up some conoers from a private camp. They gave us information about the river and where to set up a shuttle for Thursday. While we were talking a black snake swam across the river to join us on the bank. He was very curious about us and as we talked or moved around he focused on first one of us and then the other. Of course I spent most of my time with one eye on the snake and every time he headed my way I made sure I gave him plenty of space. Jess finally aggravated him enough that he went back across the river. The punch line to this whole story is that the whole time I was keeping track of the snake it never once occurred to me that I had my camera hanging from my wrist. Another missed photo op. This moving around must be exhausting because after a spaghetti supper and two quick games of cribbage we were both ready for bed. We did try bocci ball but they don’t mow the grass here enough to be able to find the ball. By the way I am way behind on the cribbage wins!
