Day 47-July 15

The sun looks like it might burn off the clouds today, but we have run out of time so it is off we go again.  We are headed to my sister Judy's home in Riddle, Oregon for a visit.  As we want to see some of the Columbia River Gorge on our way we are headed east first to Yakima and then south.  That turns out to be a good choice because as we start to climb over the pass there is a final viewing spot to see Mt. Rainier.  There are still clouds but most of the mountain is visible finally.
Washington is famous for their apples and cherries.  The cherries are ripe and absolutely delicious. The orchards are beautiful as they cover the hillsides as far as the eye can see in many places.  After a few hours we drop down into the gorge and travel along its northern shore before crossing into Oregon at The Dalles.  It is a very nice drive with the mighty Columbia surrounded on both sides with cliffs and tree covered hillsides.  In the distance can be seen the snow covered peaks of Mt. Hood, the highest point in Oregon.
We are expected at Judy's this evening so we decided to stop sightseeing for a short time and jump on I-5 for a speedy trip south.  We are all to spend a few days at a cabin near Grants Pass, so George and Michelle are on their way to Riddle also.  Its family reunion time.
